High Sea's and Coastal Artillery Badges

Hello Forum Members, After just getting these 2 badges in the mail, from a seller on the e-stand. I wanted to ask if any one knows why the gold has come off these and only silver remains. I really like the badges, I have seen them like this before. I just want to know for information to keep with my insurance records.
    Thanks to all that reply.

      Hi Jack,

Two excellent and pristine zinc Schwerins. The nature of the gilding on these is such that it fades over time, possibly faster when stored in the light, but the gilding layer isn't actually gone. Too often previous owners were tempted to refinish the wreath and it's nice to see untouched examples.

      Best regards,
      ---Norm

I have also several zinc Schwerin Minesweepers, some of tchem are faded, some are not. Here is one that kept its original gilding.
            Cheers,
            Hubert

              Badges

Bubba, Very nice badges, I just looked at my postings and realized you can still see highlights of gold in the enlargements. I would never alter them, they are fine too me just the way they are.
              Thanks
              Jack
