Need some info. Anyone know anything about this uboat badge? Time period and country?
I didn't know where else to post it.

It is Imperial Russian submariner's badge, but I also believe its a fake.

The quality of originals is very high.

Thanks JAndrew and Jani for pointing me in the right direction.

Would there be different levels of craftsmanship given different makers? Or would non officer rank seamen be awarded a lesser quality badge? I ask because the earlier Kulm cross from the Napoleonic era was awarded in distinctly different levels of construction and craftsmanship for officers and other ranks.

Another question... would this style badge transfer over to the early soviet era? Just thinking out loud here.

Then again I certainly can accept it being a reproduction if it proves to be so. Then the question would be 'When might of it been made?'. If that could be determined.

I agree with Jani. It is a supposed Imperial Russian Submariners Badge but it is a fake, IMO. I actually had the privilege of handling and examining a genuine example about four years ago. It is a super rare badge and they were very well made as Jani says. The badge I examined was part of a grouping that a friend of mine used to own. The grouping was to to an Imperial Russian submariner by the name of Captain Ivan Messer. It consisted of his Imperial Submarine Badge, an Order of St. Vladimir, an Order of St. Anna, at least two (if not three) Orders of Stanislav, and his St. George dagger for gallantry. The Orders were all in genuine gold and beautiful, but I was most intrigued by the Submarine Badge. I knew then that I would never have such a rare badge in my paws ever again. The grouping I refer to sold on the Andreas Thies Auction a few years ago.

I just did some more checking and saw this badge, identified as a Soviet Submarine Sailor School Badge. It looks very similar to an Imperial Russian Submariners Badge, but without the fouled anchor (rope).
