John, it looks like the same horse/unicorn that is on the money in the box. So my thought is that its a symbolic of the City of Schwab-Gmund, or nearby Stuttgart...

Sure enough, Wikipedia says this is the Schwabisch-Gmund Coat of Arms:

The cellophane packaging certainly doesn't seem to be preserving them very well!

I was hoping my comment might stir up some comments on whether or not the badges should be removed from their cellophane packages. Any thoughts?

Well why didn't you say so!

I agree, the cellulose packets must have held in moisture leading to the nasty zinc pest. Not a bad idea to photograph them thoroughly as they are and then carefully remove them for vaseline treatment.

                    Hi guys

All these badges are now in my possession. It's a great dilemma what to do. It's impossible to take the badges out without damaging the cello
                    Kind regards,
                    Giel

Well, at least photograph them well from all angles before they become just a pile of white crust, so people can remember what they once were.

If the packages are not air tight then I suppose they'll stay unchanged if always stored in completely dry conditions, but it's hard to ensure that continuously...

                        Best regards,
                        ---Norm
