Here's another good example of the unmarked version for this thread (this one from John T.'s site). As you can see, it shows the typical fine concentric circular abrasions on the reverse which are the same on each example and appear to be a feature of the reverse die.

Two reverses. The photos are limited, but from these the concentric ring pattern appears to be always in the same location with the epicentre of the ring pattern in the centre of the badge.

Here is a salty, unmarked Schwerin S-Boat Badge from my collection. It shows the same circular striations on the reverse.
