    E-boat type2 AS opinions please

    Hello,
My first post to this forum.

From my brief research on the web today this seems to be the place to meet with people with knowledge in this field.

I have a badge which I have owned for about 40 years - picture below.

From my research today I believe this may be a type 2 'AS' e-boat badge.
Looking at similar examples on this forum it looks to be a good match.

Would anyone be willing to advise whether you think this is genuine and of value - or not? I'm based in the UK.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mike A.

    Hi Mike,

    Welcome to the forum!

I agree, looks like an original heavily worn "AS in triangle" zinc 2nd pattern S-Boat, attributed to Adolf Scholze in Grünwald, Gablonz.

The ball hinge has been rotated 180 degrees in its crimped setting and the then the wire pin has been bent back over to close, but still looks like all original hardware and just a little worse for wear.

    Best regards,
    ---Norm

        Hi Mike,
Good Original 2nd Pattern e-boot, and very sought after, if you are thinking of letting it go research the value well, I let mine go on the estand a few months ago,

          Many thanks to you both.

I've just had another look at it. The ball hinge does freely rotate in it's mount, so I'm sure the pin could be bent back into it's correct position. I won't do so as I don't want to damage it further - but I expect it could be done without difficulty.

Do you think it would be of interest to members here if I put it on the market?

          --------

Edit: Thanks jager - obviously it is of interest. So I'll give it some thought.

              AS S-boot

              Hello,
It is a 100% good badge-just really worn. It is also one of my favorite makers.

              Regards,
              Jody

                Hi Mike,

Norm is correct in what has happened to the hinge and pin so just use the search function to see what the proper arrangement should be.

There is no telling when this happened so I would recommend not trying to bend it back into position--the pin will probably break.

Same applies to the top hook--it is bent over on its side. Do not attempt to bend it though, it might break.

In regards to sale, do some research for valuation on dealer sites and here on estand. To sell on estand, you need to be an association member.

Since it requires a buyer in the market for that specific badge, once you know the price you want, give yourself time to sell it. In other words, if it does not sell in a week or two, relist it in a month and try again. It will sell eventually of course at a price to be determined.
