      It looks like casting bubbles on the reverse at the bottom and on the hinge block to me.

        Hi Guys,

        To me it seems an original, heavily worn badge with replaced main pin and catch. I think the "pitting" noted by JAndrew is just dings? None of the original gilding remains.

          I agree, although the "pitting" could have been imparted during the repair.

          Looks like they used a high quality (probably period) catch.

          It also looks like it's been heavily cleaned and not so long ago.

            an original tombak badge for sure with replaced reverse hardware,as mentioned
