Fake F.O

Came across this fo u-boat. Im no expert but is this a fake the material looks soft the golden colour looks odd and the maker mark to thick.

Or is it just me going paranoid

I see the things that are troubling you and I agree. There is also less detail in the deck gun and flag compared to originals, but that could just be wear. Has anyone seen a thicker makers mark on any other of the Orth uboat badges? If this is a fake it's a good one.

Very good observations and I agree completely with your assessment.

IMO, this badge is for sure a cast fake. A fairly-convincing cast fake, but it still falls way short of what an original should look like. A side by side comparison will make all the flaws apparent: detail lacks crispness, soft edges, incorrect outlines, gold color, base metal, pin, & casting defects in surface of reverse are all bad signs. In addition, this fake will measure out smaller than an original.
