    U Boat award with diamonds

    Hello all,

    Near imposible to find and after looking a pictures of originals, I am sure that this is a fake, but I would apprceciate some opions none the less.

        I do not know about the diamonds but the badge is genuine early tombak Schwerin U-boat, type 1.1 in the timeline thread:

                  Agree that this is an early and original badge that someone has added the silver swastika with diamonds to in an attempt to give the appearance of the higher award. The only posssible saving grace here is that I don't see heat damage to the original badge that I would expect to see if the diamonds were soldered on to the piece and the badge does not look like it has been refinished. So maybe the person was smart enough to just glue them on and not ruin a good badge yet have a "filler" piece?

                          Be interesting to know if the diamonds are real. I rather doubt it since the whole purpose was to deceive.

                              If one were of a mind to get back to a real badge it looks from the side pics to me like you could freeze that thing and take a microchissel and pop the silver swas right off without hurting the underlying original.
