The other Meissen plate I had has now been sold to a well-known dealer as I didn't need two. These plates are quite rare as only around 90 people qualified and some would have been broken over the years.

The Meissen company found and subsequently sold 10 of these in the early 2000's which were named to U-Boat Captains who perished before the plates were despatched.

I spent a day at the Meissen factory in January. It was very interesting but the prices on their porcelain was extremely high.

Still, they had quite a few displays and an informative tour of the process.

        When were the plates manufactured?

I am not sure if this one was already posted or mentioned, but I thought it would be good to post a link for a reference. There are also two photos inside.

                  I agree.

                  That Schwerin eagle looks strange.

Yikes, that's just the "cyclops fake with diamonds".

                    Description from the website:
"Among its highlights is an original WW2 German Original Kriegsmarine Uboat Badge, which bears a diamond Swastika featuring nine genuine rose-cut diamonds and silver.
The piece is in excellent condition, and rarely appears at auction This very rare, low production badge was made by "Schwerin, Berlin 68", and is marked as such on its reverse.
The diamond Swastika itself is a separate piece, applied to a 'base' Swastika clutched in an eagle's claws.
According to SoldUSA, this rarely offered original piece is in excellent condition - a scarce and fascinating document of the most notorious military regime of the 20th century.
The badge is auctioning with an estimate of $25,000-50,000.
Bids from interested museum institutes are also encouraged."

The same type of fake has been posted and discussed before:

In the auction search function for completed sales, I do not see this one. John

This did sell according to the history. You have to type in "kreigsmarine" though.
