    Mayer U-boot

Could use some help with this one as well. It was discussed about three years ago in this thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ighlight=mayer

I want to sell it but don't want to sell some fake stuff, so I've taken some new photos and hope for some more input about id'ing the thing. TIA!

Hi Frank, looks like original Schickle zincer
I would worry about the finish exclusively.
          Cheers,
          Hubert

              I agree.

                U-boat

                Hello,
I agree with the others, it is a Schickle, zin and I do not like the finsih on it. It looks like rub and buff was applied to it.

Thanks again guys for the help

Very nice Schickle minesweeper, Norm, in the other thread!

It looks like it's been refinished. Had no idea what "rub and buff" is but google helped out. I'll try to do some more research.

I agree with all of the above but was wondering if this badge would be a good candidate for a little acetone rubbed in an inconspicuous spot?

Well, had the same thought and tried first with soap, water and a toothbrush on the back, no result. Then benzine and still nothing.

Finally the daughters nail polish remover (acetone) and the paint did come off but I stopped because who knows what else is removed

For what it's worth, the finish on my Schickle zinc Minesweepers didn't come off with acetone. We're talking about finish that supposedly came from pre-July 1941.

                        Best regards,
