In the process of purchasing these badges along with some other items. Family of the original awardee thinks he repainted the uboat badge. Very large photo album was also available with photos of the boats he served on along with other important ships.

Both very nice badges. Re-finished or not, that U-Boat is the quite rare zinc Schwerin so a good find, especially with provenance.
It would be great if you could post more of the history and photos to go with the badges.

Thanks for the comments. I hated passing on the photo album. I also received an SS donors pin that belonged to the family. More items will be available to include a uniform that belonged to him.Comment

Badges are nice. I agree with Norm, you should try not to pass on albums--that said, sometimes folks ask insane prices for them depending on what is inside.
