Here are a couple of comparisons between 2 originals in the top row compared with the 2 fakes in the bottom row. Since there are different versions of the Japanese badge (with and without meridian lines on the globe) the version without meridian lines was used for this comparison. That's the version upon which the fakes were based.

    1) There's a distinctive flaw in the first shield on the fakes.
    2) The "STERLING" stamp is different.

Another example of the same type of fake posted here:

                Norm,

I´m not sure if I´m right but I guess the pictures above shows the badge from the COA here, please compare.

If so, it has a long historie and was sold a few times as a good one

Did we not discuss this one?

Yes, maybe, but if it is the one in question then it is up for sale in the moment here in Germany, but as that what it is, just a copy.

No, the badge you just posted (that I reposted in post #36) is not the same badge in the COA at the start of the thread -- just another example of the same type of fake.

                      Best regards,
                      ---Norm

What I meant was the COA just posted is the same as the OP #1 at top of this thread.

It is not the same as the one immediately above it. John
