Very Rare JFS S-Boat Badge 1st. Pattern

    Hello guys,

Here is a very rare 1st-pattern S-Boat Badge by Josef Feix Söhne. Not only is it maker marked 'JFS', but it is personalized to Kapitänleutnant Bauer (a very German-sounding name, so it has to be real).

    Best regards,
    Tom

And, if anyone is interested, the same auction is also offering the elusive Hollywood film prop S-Boat Badge by Sean Barry Weske.

          Hi Tom,

I've only just had breakfast so seeing these was not a pleasant way to start the day. Fortunately I managed to keep everything down.

I like the way the "engraving" on the "JFS" has been "melted" into the back of the badge! Exceptionally inventive use of a fine-tipped soldering iron!

          Regards
          Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

            Hi Mike,

Sorry about that! I'm glad to hear that you didn't spill your cookies. And I bet that when you clicked on this thread, you thought you were going to see something real and never before seen, eh?

            Best regards,
            Tom

PS: The soldering iron engraving works well with lead, don't you think?

Wow! And yours even has the Testor's model airplane paint gold wreath. It doesn't get any better than that.

              Best regards,

Looks like the engraving was factory done.

                  S-boot

                  Hi Tom,
I happen to like it. I feel it is just very late war. I think this was the style worn by S-boot crews at the end of the war in Norway; at least up until the mid 1980's.

                  Regards,
                  Jody

                      Tom,

Most certainly jeweler made. There is one just like it on page 7,942 of Neimann's guide.

                          Hi John,

I have serious concerns about that U-Boat badge. Despite the vertical pin system it's not a Hymmen design. Looks like a copy of the Deumer design but with the wrong cutouts around the eagle head and under the sub, and a cut-out swastika similar to the U.S.-made copy shown by Gordon on page 173 of Torpedo Los. It's not an exact match to that badge but possibly another version.

                          Best regards,
                          ---Norm

The Destroyer is an odd looking duck as well. A casting of a Schwerin perhaps?

Fortunately the grouping only sold for $4500 + 20% buyer's premium... To be generous, and to give the benefit of the doubt, I suppose one might say the photos are distorted in enlargement...but how could anyone shell out this kind of cash for what we see here?

                            Best regards,
                            ---Norm
