              Hi Rick,

I can only agree with Hubert, this is an original Schwerin but looks completely blitzed down and worn of all finish and then some....

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                Rick,

Are you buying or selling? In minty/outstanding for its age condition, these are worth around $2500. That valuation is for pretty much top of the line, much silver frosting intact, examples of this badge. So clearly, yours if worth far less than that.

What the example you have posted is exactly worth, in this condition, is very hard to determine by anybody. If you are selling, you know what you bought it for so that is a starting point I guess. If you were given it, that is another factor to consider.

If you are buying, that is entirely another matter and we would have to think about it for a bit.

So some more information might help us with a number for you.

                John

                  Hi,
I paid GBP50/$80 for it on a hunch that it is a good badge...I don't mind if it is not worth a lot as i like it because it is a used badge with some character...

                  Cheers,
                  Rick

Well that is good news. I think it is worth more than $80 by a long shot. I will take a guess of around $500. It is not like these period first pattern examples are falling out of trees, they are not.

                    Other opinions would be interesting.

We do not normally see this badge so worn but it is still original to the time.

Therefore I set the normal value of the first pattern with moderate wear around $1800 or so up to the $2500 figure I mentioned above. We just do not encounter it in your condition, but that does not make your badge not worthy of a collection, it certainly is IMO.

Bottom line, it was a steal for you at the price you paid.

A good hunch Rick and as John mentioned you got a bargain for the price you paid.

                        Regards,Martin.
