      The Fischer Plaque

This one resembles the one pictured in the Platzwall book on KM Badges. The only difference being that the one listed as being in the Weitze Collection is mounted to a wooden backing. The one I have and the other one I have seen have also been mounted to wooden backs with three nails. One by the #3, the other at the end of the Palm leaf and the last just below the Iron Cross.
I should have a reply to my questions being posted either by sanil mail (par avion) or hopefully via email. I'll post the info here when it arrives.

I have had a number of these plaques now, does anybody have any idea how many were awarded. I have had them on the wood base and the one in stock now has been removed from the base.

These are interesting awards, the one I have in stock at the moment is the fourth one I have owned

It's not an 'award' it's simply the flottilla crest. AFAIK

The thing i'd like to know is why are there so many of these, relatively speaking, to this particular flottilla and almost none or at least very, very few to any other flottilla? And i include all the small ship flottillas in that, R-boot, VP, MS, UJ as well as S-boot.

I myself have just one crest, that of the 21 R-flottille, hand painted on metal and screwed onto a wooden plaque.

              3rd e. boat plaque.

Hi Mathew.Ihave been trying to do some research on them, and one of the American forum members as kindly tried, but so far we dont have much to go on.Only hope would be that someone who was in the flotilla could come up with some answers.I am afraid there cant be many survivors left.My award is on the board and is in quite good nick.Bought in auction some years ago.
              Regards Mike.

Good question Simon. I've seen a few of these over the years as well, but always day late or a dollar short to buy one.

These also don't look like the standard German Navy crests, which were a traditional souvenir item sold in German port cities. I've got several, they are semi 3-dimensional, cast metal on a wood backing. Really nice quality pieces, which probably weren't cheap at the time, or there would be more of them around.

So I'd guess by the lesser quality and greater quantity of these, they were certainly not "awards" and were locally made in North Afrika or Italy (no German graphic artists would draw the EK that way) and sold cheaply. Or....

Hello to all, I have been lucky enough to buy one of these from the son of a veteran whose father picked it up in Austria at the end of the war.

Recently I got the chance to talk to some historians about Tobruk and asked them about the plaque as I believe this unit attacked the harbour and assisted DAK forces at Tobruk. Even possibly landing KM Marines.

They said it was their belief the plaques were awarded and placed on the boats that served in Afrika in recognition of service rendered.

Could this be a possibility ?

                    Unknown badge! Help needed!

Can somebody help me with this badge!? I have never seen it before. It reminds me of this 3rd schnellboot flotille patch. Could it be unofficial cap badge of 3rd Schnellboot flotilla maybe?

                    It´s measures are 2,1 cm x 1,5 cm!

Roger that! This is the patch of the 3rd Schnellboot Flottilla in the current Bundeswehr. Their link to the Afrika Flottilla. RKT Albert Muller and Admiral Kemnade were honored guests at their reunions while they were alive. Bot of course also served in the West German Navy after 1957.

Here is a period shield for you to compare.

Nice plaque Kondor. Its brother is missing it.

I made the same connection when I saw the patch except that, to me, the torpedo boat has a post war look and the cross without the swastika also make me wonder about it.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Very nice Richard! I admired this in the house of the Chief Engineer from the S-59. Opportunity lost however, I never asked him when and where they were made

Anyway getting back to the original topic, the above is the the 3rd Schnellbootgeschwader, not Flotilla! out of Flensburg.

I do like the fact that they did try to keep some tradition to the WW2 Flotilla. The Flotilla badge/wappen even more so

                              E-Boat plaque

                              Hello all,

Anyone have any information or thoughts on this piece? I know this is pictured in 3rd volume of Angolia's Kriegsmarine book but there seems to be a lot of these around, are they considered period produced by most?

Awarded to the members of the 3rd Flotilla from the Med. Maybe I shouldn't say awarded, presented to the members of the Flotilla to commemorate their service there. I have one that is mounted on the original wooden plaque secured by three screws. I have seen them with only two going through the eagles wings and it looks like you have one that wasn't mounted. It was also adopted by the 3rd S-Boot Flotilla of the west Germany Marine as their insignia only reversed. Their "traditions" like to the AFRIKA Flotilla
