It is because there was a well known dealer in Cave Creek, Arizona, who used to sell these type of fakes. Since that time fake KM awards of this type are called a 'Cave Creek specials'. They were most likely made in States.

I always look at font on Schwerin Badges, if perfectly uniform and straight I run. The font will also be a bit larger .
