    U-Boat Schwerin/question of pin

    Gentlemen,

Some time ago I have bought this badge on e-stand.
    It seems to be original...
However the pin form disturbs me. I have never seen such form of the 1st type of Schwerin before....
I have searched the forum and have found a theme where the badge with such pin is shown -
    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...rin+boat+badge
So I understand that this not a typical pin on the 1st type and man can meet it very seldom. Am I right?
Is there any explanation for such not a typical pin on a small group of 1st type of Schwerin?

    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Igor.

P.S. Unfortunately, now I have only these scans.....

Looks the same as the one in the link? Whats your concerns? Appears fine to me.

Nice first pattern, agreed. What is you concern exactly? If it is the slightly bent pin, that can happen on any badge. Often done to fit better on the uniform. Or if the hinge and catch aren't lined up.

I agree, nice early tombak Schwerin U-boat badge, variation 1A according to Schwerin U-boat timeline. Your type of pin is 100% acceptable although rarer IMO than more common shape as in my badge (enclosed).
              Cheers

The pin is not exactly the same but I think it is original to this badge. It has the correct look to me, who knows why it is slightly different. John

                  Hi Guys,

I think both Igor's and Hubert's badges use the same pin stock. In my opinion the unfinished pin stock is a longer item which is cut to the right length depending on the height of the badge and then soldered to the central barrel of the block hinge.

When you compare the two badges slightly offset vertically you can see that the pin is just shortened at different points in the taper for the two "variations". Probably just two different workers in the factory with slightly different styles of handiwork. That also accounts for the slight differences in the hand finishing of the cutouts around the gun and swastika.

                  Best regards,
                  ---Norm

Norm, admit it, you had been working for Schwerin in your previous life
                    Cheers,

The angle on the pictures is not the same. You canĀ“t compare the pin length that way imo...
