    Authentic or not?

    Hello,

I am negotiating about buying these two badges, but I am not sure if they are authentic. It seems that they are coming from auction house in Germany (said by the seller which I don't have a reason not to trust), and there will be some sort of Authenticity letter with them. Please help.

The white stripe on every lower left badge pic is to cover the seller's mark.

I do not know if they are genuine, but I like the auxiliary cruiser badge. The acorns on the wreath are nice and crisp. I hope the price is correct for you.

      Hi,
Auxiliary Cruiser badge is known fake and CAB is so called flat-back which is quite controversial since there is no hard evidence proving these are wartime.
Check out this thread for more info about this fake AC:

      Cheers,

        Hi amilklic1,

Firstly, the Auxiliary Cruiser badge is a known post-war reproduction. See this thread:
        Auxiliary Cruiser badge-opinion please

        Best regards,

Ah, Hubert was already on the reply switch! (A great forum for adivce, isn't it?).

Yes, regarding the Coastal Artillery badge, if you search for "flatback" you'll see lots of threads dealing with this controversial line of badges. That's a decent example which would be good for a Coastal Artillery badge specialist collection that must have one for completeness (if the price is cheap), but not a good choice if you want one good indisputable representative Coastal Artillery badge within a more varied collection.

          Best regards,
          ---Norm

            OK guys. Thanks a lot.

As I just started with militaria, after 14 years in the army and afterr many years of collecting militaria with no intentions to become a collector, I'm not brave (or to say ritch?) enough to go with any badge which is not 100% original, or at least which is cheap enough to proof possible risk... (which these are not, just to say)

This forum is of a great help.

            Thanks again ;-)
