Opinions Needed On This Minesweeper Badge

    Hello all,

I picked this up, along with a lot of other German badges and other items, from a vet who brought it back in 1945. I know that there is a lot of controversy over the Rudolf Souval mark, so I thought I would post it here and get some opinions on it's authenticity before I sell it. My apologies for the pictures, as I am in the process of getting a new camera, so I have to use my phone at the moment. Anyway, please let me know what you think.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

From what I can see, the basemetal appears correct, as does the hardware, for wartime construction.

Thank you for the info and straightening out my pics. I hate not having working camera!

        Thanks again!

          Hi,
I agree with Mike, original period Souval zinc Minesweeper, flat wire catch variant
On reverse side there are still visible remnants of original gold finish. Obverse seem very shiny to me, was it varnished or something?
I enclose same variant from my collection for comparison.
          Cheers,
          Hubert

I was thinking the same thing. A varnish that has preserved the obverse finish - unusual on these badges and very interesting.

            Best regards,

                Hubert,

I'm not sure if it's varnished or not. It might just be the way the light was hitting it, because it does not seem to be that shiny as I look at it now. Were these varnished by the makers to preserve the finish?

                Thanks again!
