      Hi Daniel,

It appears to be a genuine early example. It appears to be worn. It also apprears to have been heavily cleaned (if you look carefully, not all the verdigris has been removed and you can see dark spots on the obverse where the green has been removed), I assume to make it look "mint" to a novice collector and increase it's value - one of the common tricks by this particular dealer.

      Regards
      Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

        Hi Daniel,
I agree with Mike, original the earliest 1A variation (according to the timeline) but it was cleaned/polished.
        I enclose mine for comparison.
        Cheers,
        Hubert

If you check around on other threads involving this dealer, they have been accused of cleaning crosses and badges before.

I know that some of his pieces are polished. I was not going to buy the badge, the finish and the odd maker mark totally put me off here. I thought this was a hero fake, just because of the looks of this piece. Weird.

            Daniel

Nice job capturing the gilding on your piece Daniel. It's so hard to capture this in photos.

thanks, really appreciated. I will attach the pictures here, so that they won´t get deleted with the sales thread.

                    Hi Daniel,
I am pretty sure you know it better than me but it is always better to write a few (reference) words more in the post for forum search purposes
Actualy all I wanted to say is that the badge in question was cleaned/polished.

                    Great u-boat you have!
                    Cheers,
                    Hubert
