    hate belt - auction

    what do you guys think of this hate belt, quite a few nice looking awards here

    Estimate: £550-£650 ( worth over £1000(?) )

    Potentially a good deal if it goes for the right price, but an eclectic grouping and I doubt it will stay together given it's lack of "theme". The Minesweeper looks like a Hobacher.

        WH or RS? S-boot looks like 'AS in triangle', CAB might be a FLL, and Destroyer seems to be a flatback? Just guessing.
        As Norm has said, potentially a good deal if the badges are original, but we cannot be sure judging based on such bad pictures.

          Of course you're right that RS and WH Minesweepers have identical designs and trimming outlines, but the shade of the finish is different and this is the typical coloration of a WH.

            Hello,
            It is a term (used by some Allied soldiers) that goes back to the First World War (items collected from a hated enemy).

            The S-boot does look like a nice AS.

              I agree, provided this picture was taken in natural light, if not then the colour of the wreath might be misleading. But if I had to choose one maker I would also vote for Hobacher
              Here are my two Hobachers, first one (mint) marked and second (faded) unmarked.

                  Sorry only partial credit.

                  It does date back to WWI but has nothing to do with Hate or a hated enemy.

                  Most that are encountered (or that where as they are usually broken up now a days) where Allied badges and buttons which where usually units served along site or with.

                  Most where made on 08 webbing belts.

                  Pronounce 08 in your typical 'cockney' way you get "hh'ate-belt" transliterate this into other English dialects the the 'h' is dropped or added.

                  The name 'Hate-belt' seems to be the end result.

                  Pity to see most of them broken up but at least we can share photos of them now.

                    before i was into collecting & old neighbour described some of his collection he had in storage (he use to be a dealer in the 1970s) - he told me about a ww1 german belt he had & apparently it was covered in lots of different types of british cap badges.. they must of come from the trenches (if im lucky, i'll get to see it one day )
