          Hi Mike,

          I agree, a good heavily worn original early Schwerin. I don't see that catch as being resoldered on this view -- looks okay? Another view of the catch in profile from the bottom of the badge would clarify I'm sure.

            I agree, heavily worn classic tombak Schwerin u-boat badge The earliest 1A variant. I also don't see from these pics that the catch is repaired. Might be but side pictures are needed.
            I enclose my 1A badge for comparison.

                    Daniel may have a point here.A couple of additional pic's of the catch may confirm this.

                    Still,an original badge IMO.

                      Thanks for all the replies gents. Hopefully the collector now has his answer! I'll leave it up to him as to whether a pic of the catch is provided for the discussion.
