    E Boat badge, R.S. L/58

    Anyone like this one? Nice repro if not, at a bit above repro price.

    Sorry the pictures are not so good, lighting in here is poor at night.

    Marked "R.S" and a very tiny "L/58" stamped below.

    Hi Jeff,

    You're right the photos are bad so it's hard to say anything definitive without good close-ups of hardware and the margins, but from these shots it's looking like a "genuine" silver-backed double-marked Souval.

    Debate is continual on which Souval's are wartime vs. post-war, but many consider these double-marked silver backed series as post-war, and I must admit I tend to fall into that group.

    Here's an old thread from 2003 that thought the same, although as I say, some disagree:

      Let me see if I can do some better photos. What do you mean by "margins"?

      Interesting that Souval just kept going (not with just KM) after 1945...I gues times were tough, and they saw a market.

        Hi Jeff,

        I mean edge-on views like this that can show shear marks (or casting lines as the case may be). And close-ups of the hardware to compare with other Souval badges. Finally, weight in grams to 1 decimal place, and overall height and width in mm are useful to compare to references.

          I agree with Norm. Looks like original double marked RS S-boot, which is most likely postwar IMO.

            Here is another example of postwar double marked (R.S. + L/58) Souval Minesweeper. Looks like twin brother to your S-boot (reverse setup, finish, etc.).

                Funny thing how badges makes the rounds!
                That double-marked (presumably post-war) R.S. Minesweeper is the same one previously posted by mpiering on the second page of this thread. The photos have subsequently disappeared from the external server and mpiering recently sold the badge on GCA, and now new photos have come back to WAF! It's a small world.
