    Auxiliary Cruiser badge-opinion please

Hello, please could you give me your opinions regarding this badge - any opinions welcome. (I think it's a good one, late war flat back, unmarked badge - but I can always be wrong) Thanks in advance, regards

I like it. You got it right, late war unmaked. But wait for the experts.

      Hi martinez-1980,

Sorry, it's a post-war reproduction. It's apparently a variation on the Auxiliary Cruiser fake by the same maker as the "feathered" minesweeper fakes, but with a different catch.

The base metal, cutouts around the ship and hardware are all wrong.

      Best regards,
      ---Norm

          IMO a postwar copy.

In regards to the cutouts,as Norm mentioned,i do not know of any period HK award where the area between the bottom of the sail and the top of he shields is not cut out.

          Regards,Martin.

Here's the "feathered minesweeper" maker's fake Auxiliary Cruiser for comparison. Same obverse details, globe, cutouts and hinge. Different catch and finish...sneaky. You can see the same filled in area under the sail that Martin showed in the closeup.

            Best regards,
            ---Norm

So this one is not the same as the one in Gordon Williamson's new book on page 170?

I agree with Martin and Norm, badge posted by Martinez for opinion is a post war reproduction , probably made by the same 'maker' as 'Feathered eagle' minesweepers. I enclose another example of this fake.

Answering to Dennis question - yes, this is the same badge and I am sure example from page 170 will be excluded from new edition of this great book.

                  Cheers,
                  Hubert

                    Hi Dennis,

the badge on page 170 in Gordon's book is a fake IMO and one that was overlooked.

As Hubert menioned,if there is second edition then i am sure that Gordon will exclude the mistake.

                    Cheers,Martin.

Hello All, thank you for all your opinions. I returned the badge to the dealer, he was a bit disappointed as apparently he has got the same book, so took it as orginal one. I'm looking forward to see the new (updated) edition of this book, maybe next time I will get some discount from the author. best regards, Martin

                            Hi Dennis,

i think that the HK award on page 170 is the only bad one in the book.I personally feel very confident that that all of the other awards that are featured in the book are good.

                            Regards,Martin.

                              I agree with Martin
There are also several minor inaccuracies there when it comes to attribution of unmarked badges (S&L, F&B and Meybauer), and such possibility was acknowledged by the author in the afterword.
Nevertheless this is great reference book
                              Cheers,
                              Hubert
