    Hi Gary,

Very well worn (still looks like 30-40% original fire-gilding though) and probably cleaned at some stage but not repaired and a 100% original early tombak example.

    Regards
    Mike

        Hi,
I agree with Mike - well worn but original early tombak Schwerin Minesweeper badge Original black finish on the reverse totally cleaned out showing silver undercoating.
I enclose my badge for comparison - also worn but retaining black finish on the reverse.
        Cheers,
        Hubert

          Hi Gary,

I agree with Mike and Hubert. It must have been thoroughly chemically cleaned since physical cleaning would not have so thoroughly removed all of the dark "oxidized" finish on the waves and reverse.

A good honest Schwerin, not in the most desirable condition due to the cleaning and lack of finish, but has now come down to a more appropriate price I'd say. With a good finish it would cost at least a $100 more.

          Best regards,
          ---Norm

Those diagonal lines on the reverse under the maker's mark are unusual. Possibly some abrasive cleaning as well? Unless it's a chemical streaking...you'd need the badge in hand to tell, I think.
