    Is this one a keeper? I looked through the fake gallery and didn't see it there, so maybe there's a chance. The pin & hinge are obviously replaced.

          Hi John, looks like S&L AC, hinge and main pin have been replaced as mentioned before.
          I have some concerns about the rivet - pictures are not showing this clear enough but if the rivet head is snipped off and simply flattened down with small angle cut on side as I see it, then it indicates on typical 1957 variant...
          Better pictures of the rivet would be useful.

            Hi John,

            IMO this is a good period HK award by Steinhauer & Luck.

            The hinge and mainpin have been replaced i think,but the catch assembly and "snipped off" rivet are a good indication of wartime assembly.

                Here is the reverse of an example from my collection, with the "snipped rivet" that i am 100% certain at this point is a wartime produded piece by S&L.

                  Enclosed there is an example of post-war rivet I was talking about (posted some time ago on GCA by Tom Durante). I was afraid that one in John's badge may look very similiar. The clue is about this small cut as I understand Tom's post on GCA here:

                      Hi Hubert,

                      I see your concern, but you can see on comparison that John's definitely has the S&L wartime rivet with the central ridge just like Martin's, and I'm sure Tom would agree. The overlapping lips of material give it a more oval look but the ridge is the same, and distinctly different from the '57 rivets.

                        Norm, thanks for explanation. Your blow-up picture shows it all - rivet is looking wartime to me as well, now I am sure of that

                          I would agree on the rivet aspect, these do look like wartime rivets rather than the 1957 ones, which just have a very slight cut to one side as shown.
