      Hi David,
I hate calling good badges fakes but in this case you need to be VERY cautious.
I have seen several very good RS fakes popping up in Poland recently (one is enclosed but seen even better tries by this fake maker!). The give away is wrong base material (fakes are much overweighted ~ 32-33g), feature larger catch base plate and lower hinge. I can see these red flags in the badge you have posted...
It would be very nice to hear what others think?
      Cheers,
      Hubert

        Hi Hubert

I can see that the RS mark on yours is thinner than on Davids?

          Hi Andy,
Maybe it is but IMO it is not about the mm since even in my example it looks acceptable. Look at the hinge which is shorter than original and a catch round base plate which is larger than in known originals. What is more - swaz arms imperfections are just identical...
Main pin should be longer, usualy.
As I said before - have seen even better looking fakes recently but all of them shared these things.
          Cheers,
          Hubert

Thank you both for your opinions. I am afraid that the face shot of the backside will reveal all doubts. Any other thoughts?

It's a fake David, no doubts about it. I bet it weights more than 30g.
              Cheers,
              Hubert

                Hi David,

I agree with Hubert that the badge at the start of the thread is a reproduction, albeit with pretty good detail. As Hubert said, the base metal is all wrong, plus you can see the scooping of the reverse surface from the casting whereas real Souval minesweepers (unlike some of their other badges) are very flat, and the irregular texture to the internal margin of the wreath on the oblique view is wrong.

The finish of the obverse is remarkably similar to that of some Staegemeir fakes like this fake "AS in triangle", but maybe others faker's use a similar technique to his.

                Best regards,
                ---Norm

Well thank you all for contribution.
I stepped on a landmine. The badge goes back to the seller.

It's a fake David, no doubts about it. I bet it weights more than 30g.
Yes it is pretty heavy. Must be over 30 g for sure.
When I compared the back of the badge with your pictures, it became clear to me.
