Not manufactured that way to the best of my knowledge, however total hardware repair/replacement on a original could not be ruled out without pics.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

Cased Schwerin U-Boat with horizontal pin.

            Gran,

I sure hope they existed. I found this one in the mid 1990's and I always assumed it was real until I saw the comments on your posting. I guess I'll need to post it and get some updated opinions to see if anyone knows the origins of it if it's fake.

I sure looks good to me, so does the case. Nothing glues under black-light, and the hinge is magnetic.

This badge is all wrong, in other words - FAKE, same goes for the case!

The badge is a fake from the 70s. It is based on the Hymenn style badge which does not resemble the Schwerin at all. I think these came out of the Phoenix area, not sure. Maybe Jody knows. Does not matter, it is a fake.

I think the case is also a fake as this does not match the cartons that the original badges came in.

Agree with Lubo and John, both badge and case are fakes

Dave, do not feel bad. This badge and case has been fooling and cheating collectors for many years. It has been posted on this forum quite a few times. Before the internet and decent reference books, hard for a collector to know what was going on without knowing somebody who did.

Bummer, I never really gave it much thought in the past. I just picked it up very reasonable and liked it, so I just put it away.
One good thing is that I do not have much in it. I'll just keep it as an example to show new collectors, and thus avoid it getting back into circulation as an original.
