No I'm afraid I think this is a fake, the pin, hinge and makers name are the initial give away for me.

The overall look isn't right in my opinion either........crude to honest.

I am novice though so please wait for the more informed to answer.

        Kind regards,

        Marcus

          Hi Guys,

After a quick look I also thought this was a crude copie but after looking a little better I think this is probably a good, although extremely worn, buntmetall Schwerin HSF.

What's left of the detailing seems to be OK and the chocolate brown colour of the wreath is consistent with the typical discoloration on very worn (grounddug) buntmetall.

Catch seems to be ok but I can't explain the strange hinge. Maybe a replacement?

I think it is OK as well. The details and points I look for appear to be there but a few better shots of the back (hinge and MM) would help for a final determination.

BTW The HSF article on the association site is still not working.

              Obverse says yes.

              Maker mark says yes.

              Pin says no.

The rest of the reverse says maybe.

On balance I'd give it a cautious

              Cheers,
              David.

At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

                Mine for comparison.

Obviously there is a difference in the relative condition.

                  Hi,

At first glance, I thought it was a casting. Looking at it more carefully, I agree with some of the others above and I think it's more likely a heavily worn genuine badge with the hinge and main pin replaced. Some better images would be great, as would some basic dimensions, just to confirm.

                  Regards

Agree with Mike. The points to look for are there. Probably a ground dug with replaced hinge/pin. As Mike said measurments will confirm.
