I can live with Gordon's explanations, although I still think that the beak is just to good to be just a result of a production accident.

The conclusion for me would be a heavely worn badge with a little customizing on the eagles head. Think I can't blame the recipient because like Gordon stated above the Schwerin U-boat eagle isn't really a beauty.

Besides that Joey showed us 5 absolutely original KM badges that all seem to have come from the same source. I guess it's always possible but highly unlikely that the 6th one would have been a fake. I know this is not an argument but sometimes it won't hurt to trust your feeling.

Note how on the real thing, the levels of the upper edge of the wings are slightly out of alignment. The badge in question is the same. The lack of "cut-away" around the gun is right on some Schwerin pieces. Not also the curvature of the wreath where it narrows just before meeting the U-Boat. All correct Schwerin die characteristics which can be seen on the badge in question.

        Hello All,

Each will have his hown opinion, but have a look on all the detail, why so many difference this a first type schwerin :
        - The U-Boot double thickness doesn't seem to be here
        - The gun deck level with the back deck level
        - The flag size
        - The cut out of the cross
        - The hinge height
        - ...

I have to admit that this U-Boot badge is disturbing but I persist in my opinion I don't want it in my own collection.

        Regards,

        Michel

my Schwerin U-boat badge... is it good?

            Hi to everybody!

Since it seems that all the specialists in Kriegsmarine badges are following this thread I am posting my badge.

I never was totally convinced of it... there are many diffences I notices; the catch, the script of the maker on the back...

What do you think? Is it original or not?

            Ciao,

            Claudio

                Hi Claudio,

I have to be carefull with my assessment of Scherin U-boats but IMO that's not an original Schwerin. The eagle again isn't a match, certainly looked upon from the reverse the badge has a very smooth soft looking apearance and I don't like the reverse hardware either. Also the sand bubbling under the finish visible in your obverse picture and the wreath popping out from under the eagles wings put me off.

Gordon don't tell me I have to add a this example to my accepted files too.

Although dificult to be 100% sure due to the different picture angles Claudio's badge reminded me of the "Jesus Christ Super Star" (called that way because of the lack of definition in the upper breast and head feathers) Schwerin fake we discussed in this thread.http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...t=jesus+christ
