    U-boot badge, opinions?

    Hi everybody,

I just bought this badge on a local market, but I've my doubts if the badge is original...

    What are your opinions?

Thanks in advance! It's much appreciated!

    Kind regards, Remco

    Hi Remco,

This looks like a good one to me. Let's see what the others think.

    Best regards,

I would recommend comparing it carefully with the database here. Unfortuantely, good fakes are being made of this badge.

Thanks for your replies so far!

I found it very difficult to see if it's original or not, but I'm also not very experienced in these badges...

The MM looks very similar to an original...what are the other points where you have to look at?

            Thanks!!

I think your badge is probably original but as I said, we need to be very cautious with this particular one.

Go ahead and do side by side comparisons on your own. You will be able to see if it matches a period badge or the fake I think.

For example, do a careful examination of the maker mark against the known fake and known originals on this forum. Takes a little work, but that is the only way you will get your answer.

To answer your question, it helps to know the fakes, but it is more important to have examples of period badges with which to compare. The fakes are numerous so it can be quite an exercise to use them unless you spend a lot of time looking at badges.

Most do not have this time so go with an original and compare it to your badge.

I think your badge is original based on the better shots posted by Norm of your images, not one of the fakes doctored up to look old.

Here is a front shot side to side with an original, I see no issues with yours.

For me it's also still very hard to see whether a badge is original or not but luckilly all expertise on this forum helps me a lot and I learn more and more every day.
I recently received an U-boot badge as well from the Juncker company and as soon as I have pics I'll post them on this forum for some feedback.
For now thanks to all for your shared expertise and giving us starters a lot to learn
