    HSF 4 or 5 Windows?

    Hi guys!
I'm looking at maybe acquiring my 1st HSF badge for my little Kriegs collection and notice there variations of both 4 and 5 window awards. I assume the 4 window is a flaw? Is there any difference in value, rarity or ???? Any other info would also be helpful!
Greatly appreciate any help & education!!

        Hi Greg,

you are correct in assuming the missing bridge window is due to a worn/flawed die.

The overall condition of the badge will determine the value,i think, whether it has either 4 or 5 windows.

        Regards,Martin.

Thanks Martin! That's what I also needed to know as well & based on the wonderful reasearch thread, the type 1 & 2 would be the best examples (if you were going to only obtain 1 or 2 in a collection) to own.
          Appreciate it!

              Hi Greg,

Not such a great difference in price, usually condition is a main infuence in schwering tombaks to the general collector. 4 window altough perfectly ok are usually less desirable also. Most minty badges are the 2nd type/pattern, the 1st type/patern being the rarer of the two if you are a bit more specialised.

I would argue the 4 windows don't have any diminished value, they are just another type.

Accidentally offending people on the internet since 1997

I agree to some extent, I was not saying that they are of less value but just that if a non focused awards collector had a choice between a 4 window and a 5 window piece at the same price and same condition he would generally take the 5 window.

Having said that a more specific naval badge or schwerin collector may take the variation 4 window.

That's all I was trying to say
