Hi guys! What can you say about this badge?

    Hi,

I think the badge might be OK - at least the basemetal looks to be correct (zinc alloy). I don't see any strong indications of casting, but measurements and a weight would be useful. The finish is very, very strange though. I think it has probably been refinished.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

      I disagree

I am going to politely disagree with Mike's opinion for the following reasons:
I can't tell what the base metal is but where I see some wear on the front - like around the ribbon on the bottom the metal looks bright silver and too shiny.
The colors on the front certainly are not consistent with a RS piece. The gold is too "gold" and shiny, I have never seen a RS with the boat that color or contrasting lower hull.
Looking at the reverse, even though a 2 dimensional picture, I get the impression of a very uneven back.
The edges are very soft, not sharp and crisp as they should be. For the last two reasons I think this is a cast piece.
I don't like the catch or the hinge.
We don't see the whole pin but looking through the front side at it, it looks thicker than what I would like.
The detail around the torpedo door hinge and superstructure is also off.
Personally, I would stay away from this one. Nice RS badges come up fairly often so I would keep looking.
      Mike
