    Schwerin HSF catch opinion

    Hi for all members.

    I need your expert opinions concerning the catch of one Schwerin HSF badge.

    In the High Seas Fleet Study by Mike Kenny, i could see this kind of catch and hinge pin :

    Herewith now pictures of a HSF badge.
    I need to know what you think of this catch : original ? repaired ?

    It looks like badge number 4 to me;

    cross hatched hinge pin;

    "C" catch with flattened base but no catchplate.

      It is the correct type of catch for this badge, however IMO there's a chance it may have been repaired. The two things I am a bit concerned with is the amount of solder used, it looks a bit excessive compared to others I have seen. Also the patina seems a bit off? I'm not confident enough to say yay or nay, but these are just some humble observations..

        Good photos you provided. Yes, original badge, but could you post front view shots to take a look at the finish.

        I agree with you, it looks like it is possible that the catch had some extra work done to it at some point.

            Very nice badge, even if the catch is repaired it looks great good photos as well.

              I would not worry about the catch. The cross hatch pin makes this a nice find.
