    u-boot badge

    Hi Guys,

I am able to pick up some kriegsmarine badges. First up is a U-boot badge. I hope you can tell if its good or bad. These are the two pictures I have for now. If others pics are required, let me know and I'll ask.

    Thanks for looking

    Bob

        Hi Bob,

Interesting posting. That looks like the same type of U-boat badge as the unknown zincers with the "Deschler-like" setup which we were discussing here.

I wondered if they were by the so-called "unknown flatback maker" of other badges, although the setup was different, and then you posted this example which has the typical (if somewhat generic) hinge and pin of the flatback maker, albeit with a different oddly small catch plate.

Bob, could you please ask for more pictures with the pin up as John suggested?

Sascha, do you have some information on these badges that could provide some insight? Perhaps a little preview from your book?

        Best regards,
        ---Norm

Probably what Sascha is looking at is the fake looking stamp under the pin. We just need better photos.

Better pictures really needed, the mm mark looks bad, and i have too say dont like the look of the reverse, or catch, would agree with sasha not one for me going off these. All the best

I hope Bob can get some more pictures. If this one is fake, then the question remains is this a copy of the badge with the "Deschler-like" pin, or are they all fakes?

It's still not known whether the unknown flatback maker was one maker or more than one, and wartime or post-war, although the zinc basemetal and finish look very convincing on many of them...many questions remain.

The sample pages that Sascha just posted from his upcoming book, show that the flatback 2nd pattern S-boot is made from a die very closely related to the B.H. Mayer S-boot, and he has grouped them together.

              Best regards,
              ---Norm

Ok guys, here is another picture. Not exactly what I had hoped to be, but the pin is up

                Silly mark by the way

Very soft detail, strange stampings on the back. This remains a fake IMO.
