Here is one of yesterdays fleamarket-finds - the price was veeeery cheap. Do those have a value?

Looks like it was once glued to a fotoalbum or so:

      Well,
Looks like a button ground off the eyehole and attached to, what I can guess, is thin brass? Don't think this holds too much value. Just my opinion.

I agree with Justin re the construction of this one - VERY basic. It looks like the front has been painted gold but I don't see any wear to the finish. I can't see the remnants of any attachment system and the fact it's been removed from something may indicate this one was only ever intended as some sort of "decoration" (eg on a photo album). Compared to others, it also appears to be exceptionally long.

Authenticity of these is very subjective as "originals" were hand/field made. This one would not be for me though.

One that has half a chance of being period would be 2-300 Euro on a dealer site. I honestly can't imaging anyone paying that sort of price for this one, even if it is a genuine period example.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

I would second the photo album decoration seems like a logical use for it.

Looks like epoxy resin on the back so I would go with post war.

If it is resin perhaps is was a decoration of a pleasure craft of some form?

It is 11cm long. No remains of epoxy or so. All remaining lead-spots show impressions of 2 needles that have been fixed there once.

My guess it is a genuine one, the vet removed the needles after the war, filed the lead-spots flat, and glued it on his fotoabum. And painted it golden.

Have seen other awards form other vets, one has painted the silver ones silver, another one has given his to a jeweller, to cover them with silver.

Of course I am aware this has not the same value as a "regular" one, made with much more work, but still a need piece.
