First Kriegs Badge - Schwerin HSF

    Hi all,

I wanted to share my first Kriegsmarine badge. It's a High Seas Fleet in Tombak by Schwerin that I picked up over the weekend.

    Hope you all like it.

An interesting badge to say the least.
Looks interesting and I look forward to more experienced collectors.
Some things I immediately noticed. On the bridge windows. This is the 4 window with the left one being missing. The far right window is also misshapen as is the portholes along the water line displaying their un-uniformity.
There are alot of good points as well that I can see but I look forward to reading what other more seasoned members think.
      Regards,
      JustinG

Hi Justin...I think the missing window is a die flaw....a lovely conditioned HSF IMO

A well worn, and probably cleaned, original.

              Thanks

Glad to hear that this badge is a good one. The bridge windows didn't concern me too much, the waterline portholes on the ship, that was what concerned me most. This isn't addressed too much or seen in the examples on the pinned thread dealing with the schwerin examples. I am glad to have this information and the reviews of seasoned members.
Good to get some more advice and opinions.
That's what these threads are all about; learning and sharing knowledge.

              Cheers,

This is definately an original Schwerin HSF and looks much better in hand. I think the pictures really make the badge look silver, which it isnt. Come on Chad I know you can do better pictures than that...

                  Hi Justin,

You are right, the portholes are one area I did not address in the article. I did notice changes in this area "with time" as well though, but did not document them. Suffice it to say some variaition would be acceptable.

As always, it's the combination of attributes found on genuine badges that needs to be addressed as it is not hard to condemn an original example as fake based on only one specific area (eg the missing left bridge window).

                  Regards
                  Mike

I was just saying that the reverse doesnt show the nice patina it would show if the lighting was right.
