S&L Destroyers War Badge-SOS Purchase

Hello folks,
I would like to post my one and only Kriegsmarine purchase from this years 2010 SOS Show. This a near mint Destoyers War badge by S&L and it was obtained from my good friend Alex aka Z19 (thank you Alex).

This is a really beautiful badge and I almost like it as much as my mint Schwerwin Berlin example.

Stunning Jody. Your loyalty to your old Schwerin is admirable but I like it even better than your Schwerin.

By the way, have you ever noticed that the picture in the S&L catalogue is actually of the Schwerin design and not S&L's own design (and likewise for the Minesweeper and U-boat pictures)? I was asking Gordon W. about this, and he figured that one possibility is that Schwerin was the first producer and their images were used in the S&L catalogue pending their own production.
At any rate, you sure have both bases covered with your stunning examples. I've taken the liberty of putting your posted image from the database thread side by side with your new one.

Hi Norm,
Thank you. I must tell you the gilt on the Schwerin Badge is far superior as well as the bluing on the ship (plus I prefer the wreath on the Schwerin badge). I do like the S&L badge (the reason I bought it). Schwerin Berlin will always be my favorite propducer of KM awards.

That is intersting about how S&L used the Schwerin design in their catalogue.

Many thanks and yes it sure is purdy.

Yes Darrell, I have been known to stray from time to time. My rules are simple it has to be an early example and as close to mint as possible (I hate KM badges with worn out gilt finishes).

I am very picky about my badges and that is why I only bought two at the entire show (one was a bronze CCC also by S&L). Most did not meet my standards or were way too high.
