    U-boat photo album u-108

I have recently received an excellent original photo album containing 137 photos ( all related to service on U-108 ) . Album which belonged to a crew member who served on U-108 from date of commissioning through to 1942 .... Mirroring the service period of its commander Kptlt. Klaus Scholtz. ( knights cross / oakleaves )
During the command of Klaus Scholtz ... U108 sank 26 ships ( 135, 366 tonnes ) making Scholtz and U-108 one of the most "successful" U-boats of WW2 .
The album is special for several reasons ...it is very well captioned , nearly all the crew are named and pictured individually and in groups . There are around 10 original photos of Commander Klaus Scholtz ..including a nice snap shot of him reading a book in his bunk . A further 16 rare photos were taken inside u-boat .
There are 10 photos which show 2 ships under attack ..British steamer Effna and Norwegian Tanker Norland . 9 photos show surviving crew of sunken ship being given supplies by the crew of U-108 ...captain onboard being questioned and then given details of direction of nearest land .
4 of the u-boats crew named / photographed went on to command their own u-boats ..3 of these men eventually died in their respective u-boats .
I will add low resolution images of this album to this thread in the coming weeks ...it would be interesting hear your comments and see any other photos of the crew from this period that may exist ....I would especially like to know more about the albums owner .. Ob.Mech. Willi Wilke ... what he did before and after his service on U-108 .... I know there are many well informed individuals on this forum , I'm hoping someone will be able and willing to help .
    many thanks

It has been pointed out to me elsewhere , that there is no mention of Willi Wilke having served on U-108 ...according to Ubootwaffe.net crew list .
and the only Willi Wilke mentioned died on U-655...24th March 1942.
I really need some help from someone with indepth knowledge .
The album to me clearly suggests Willie Wilke served on U-108 .
If it was Willi Wilkes album then there is an inconsistancy because there are photos of Norwegian tanker sinking on may 1942 .
Can anyone confirm for me that Wilke did serve on U-108 ..
Does anyone know how definative are the crew lists on ubootwaffe.net ?
Also how common a surname is Wilke in Germany ...is it perfectly possible that there were 2 Willi Wilke surving in U-boats during WW2 ?
    many thanks

Jim, don't sweat it too much if he is not listed on ubootwaffe.net as the list is by no means complete and continues to grow as information becomes available. Probably the only complete list that exists is in the Archives in Germany. Patience will probably result in the answer.

Hello Richard , I have just spoken via a forumsite to the chap who runs / is associated with the crew list on ubootwaffe.net, he also said it is an incomplete list , very much work in progress ...and thankfully confirmed that Wilke is a common surname in Germany .
I will be contacting the German archive for Willi Wilke serviced records ...but was surprised to learn it can take up to a year to get a response ...has anyone here used the archive..and if so did it take a long time to get the information ?
        many thanks

This does not matter. As pointed out, the list is incomplete. You should email that forum so they can add this name to the list.

An update re ubootwaffe.net crew list for U-108 ..
As a result of the contents of the album , a further 8 names will be added .
14 other individuals photographed and named were already on the lists .
a few more pics from the album
