U-Boat Badge... Real, Repro, or Repaired?

I've had this U-Boat badge for about 20 years, but the current reference books have me wondering about whether it is a repro or a repaired badge. The badge & pin look o.k. to me, but the catch is something I've never seen referenced.

The catch is an oval piece of sheet metal. High magnification shows serations on the edges of the oval as if it was cut by a saw or drill.

Could you guys please venture an opinion on its authenticity? Thanks for any help.

Here are photos of the reverse, with close-ups on the catch.

One more. The badge has no markers mark, by the way.

Hi Dont like the catch or the hinge on this one, colour to the reverse also looks wrong with no evidence of a finish. All the best

I see what you mean about the hinge... it looks to be a cast copy of a folded sheet metal hinge. Good eyes, MRG!!! Thanks.

I also do not like this one. Try to find the eagle on an accepted U-boat badge--do not think you find it. As you have said, this type of catch is usually a red flag.
