    What KM items did you get for Christmas?

    Hello,
    What KM items did you get for Christmas. For me, my wife and son got me the Schiffer book Doenitz Crews and I got this postcard.

    Anyone else?

      Got the Hans Lody tally, Torpedoboot Leopard, Another Linienschiff Schleisen, Unterseebootsschule a 2nd one, Torpedoboot Seeadler, Torpedoboot Itlis, and soon to be arriving, the Admiral Hipper and Schlachtschiff Scharnhorst tally.
      Not too bad!

      No badges unfortunately. But all items that I want.

        Nice card Jody,a classic portrait of Donitz. Justin i am glad you added some more tallies to your collection.
        Nothing for me this Christmas,i do have a couple of nice photo's in the mail,but i have been offered some great Hilfskreuzer items that i hope to pick up in the New Year and very rare stuff,at that.

          Hm. Does it count if we got the items for ourselves at Christmas, rather than from someone else as a gift?
          I'm utterly amazed JustinG has such an understanding and loving wife who can read his mind and provide him with all the tallies his heart desires in the Christmas season!

            Jody, I think we were on the same wavelength my friend...This was my Chrissie present to myself (arrived on Chrissie eve...just in time!), and my wife and daughter wrote me an IOU for the new KM book coming out next year from B&D.

            I love the Bauer portraits taken of Donitz, They are some of the best IMO (I have that one and several others as well)...very nice card mate!

              Great card and I agree about Bauer. I also like how these cards are larger than the Hoffman cards.

              Is your signature wartime or post-war signed?

                Yes mate, they are a good size and somehow clearer as well, though I do like the Hoffmann and Rohr's in some instances too (depends on the shot)...The card is indeed a wartime signed piece. Happy New Year to you too...I'll try to catch up with you at the SOS!

                    Both of the Photos/postcards of Donitz are spectacular.

                    The signature, how can you tell if it is post war or war time? I have not ever spent time looking at signatures to see the progression with exception to A.H's signature and how it progressed. Did Donitz adjust his signature later in life post war that can clue in to a time dating?
                    I should probably spend some time looking at the documents and award groupings to see if there is a difference.

                    I am truly lucky to have such a wonderful wife. I also am fortunate to work in an industry that allows me to work overtime and pick up some extra cash. Not many of those jobs around. I am grateful for that, to offset my spending sprees.

                    I basically get "Get out of the doghouse" cards from my wife. I can use them if I spend a large amount for TR items.. I am truly lucky to have such a wonderful wife.

                    Merry Christmas everyone and I hope this was a great one.

                        There are a number of ways to proof the signature and you have described one of the ways that is used, and has been used to ID this one, the types of pen, ink and comparison may also be used...It is interesting to note the changes in Donitz signature over time, and the fact that he had several signature-types. There is much to say here and it is the wrong place to go into detail but suffice to say that on Jody's certificates (in the best of 2009 thread) which are wartime signed look different (in some ways but not all) to the signature on my signed card below. For example, the line preceding the 'o' and the upward curve at the top of the 'z'...It also looks similar (in some ways but different in others) to the signed blue ink signature in a limited edition book I have that was signed in 1976 (see pics)...The page opposite that genuine signature has another facsimilie signature of Donitz done at the time of publication...However, if you look very closely the signatures on both Jody's certificates and my card look similar in the placement of other parts of the signature... In short, I have about 150 example signatures of Donitz that I use to compare...These are from different periods war, mid post war and late post war. Again, IMHO, research, research, research!

                              I was not doubting the signature.
                              This is an area I have not spent any amount of time with. I personally don't collect personalities of the war. I don't have any death cards, or any photos with exception to 4 personal photo albums of Kriegsmarine sailors.
                              Thank you for posting the others for comparison. Very nice examples you have.

                              Even though, I don't personally delve in this collecting area, I can see the quality and the appeal.
