Thanks to all for the discusion. I tend to believe now that it is realy just a well worn and polished badge. You can even see white remains of polish in the deeper areas.

    Thanks Jens

After seeing that nice side by side of the reverse I guess this one is real. I still would pass though, and keep my eyes open for a better example.
        best wishes,

Well, to each their own. I don't have one from this maker yet and I want a nice one one day but, I wouldn't want this one; but hey, that's me.

            Good luck on it
            Tim

I just checked my files and saw pictures of two by this maker...I was always partial to this maker because I like that long top hook.

I like this example and it does look cleaned/dipped or heck maybe the guy wore it throughout the war and then cleaned it. The reverse hardware fittings are correct down to the finishing of the end of the pin. If a casting is suspected measurements and weights would confirm that most likely---also castings can often be spotted in pictures due to wrong dimensions in certain areas that can be spotted in photos-IE castings are not "exact" smaller copies-- but based on the pictures alone I would tend to lean towards a good example. I actually think I have one with the same broken top hook also.

                  Best,

                  J
