Take a pass on this crude example. John

My first impression was very different to John's for this example - I like it!

The badge looks like zinc with a "faded to grey" gilt on the obverse and worn around the edges on the reverse. The hardware retains the original gilt finish, which is a common feature on genuine zinc badges. Further, similar (if not the same) hardware is known from wartime manufacturers (eg L/17, Wernstein, Silver Wound Badges).

I'd like to see some edge shots, but at this stage I think it's a genuine zincer.

          Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

Mike could very well be right about the badge being period, the pin is found elsewhere.

My point was that the badge to me looks crude in make and design, however it could be period of course--well, I admit, the badge is growing on me a bit and maybe I was too harsh on the first comment.

If we are going to discuss this more, keep the images coming and need a straight on shot of the deck gun and a side shot of the catch so that the design of the catch can be studied.

The badge looks like it was vaulted, is this correct?

I also like this one. In some respects it is like an unmarked Meybauer.
              best wishes,

The base metal is definitely (plated) zinc, and not the now so often used new alloy.

Maybe a smaller straight on shot of this one would help as the detail on these big pictures I feel are distorting the award somewhat.

Thanks a lot gentlemen! Unfortunately these were the only pics I made of the badge and in the meantime I could not agree with the seller on an acceptable price. So I didnt get it.
                        Thanks for the help!

Seller was asking 480€,which was way above what I was willing to pay for a zincer

I agree with you on the price being too high.
