Hello folks,
A friend gave me this copy of Voelkischer Beobachter and I wanted to show show a little excerpt from it. The paper is dated the 27th of July, 1944 and it makes mention of the introduction of the U-boat clasp by Grossadmiral Doenitz.
Of course at this time the clasp only came in bronze for the silver version was not instituted until November 24 of that same year. I find it interesting that the clasp came about on May 15, 1944 and it took until July for it to get some type of mention (at least in this paper). Of course Nazi Germany had more pressing matters going on at the time. BTW, the clasp is mentioned in little blurb on the current fighting in Normandy (I really don't see the clasp and Normandy being related).
I hope you folks find it of some historical interest or value. Does anyone have any period publications that make an earlier mention of this clasp? Perhaps a copy of Die Kriegsmarine. If you do please post them below.
Regards,
Jody
