    Schnellboot badge

    Once again folks,

From what I have learned, this appears to be a good badge. There is the scoop which in the two pictures does not show to be too deep. The back coloring of the badge appears that this is a tombak badge.
The eagle beak and wing display the same original flaw as do the real badges in having a higher connecting line.

    So, here we go:

You are about to pull the trigger on the right place.IMO good badge with a lot of finish left, the only funny thing is that I ve never seen the upper catch on a early Schwerin soldered like that (but thats me - not enough experience)

What I mean for the upper catch soldering is this:

          Hello,
I have seen a catch done like that once or twice before. I want to see the die flaw; I can see it on the example posted by Lubo.

I will be honest, the catch might turn off a few future buyers if you needed to sell it.

          Regards,
          Jody

              Thanks Lubo and everyone.

Yes, thanks for the wonderful example. It is nice to be able to continue to build on knowledge passed by fellow collectors.

              Thanks again,
              regards,

              Justin

                Jody,

this badge is for sale on Weitzes' site. After looking at his more detailed photo's,the die flaw is visible.
So,i am convinced that this is an original Schwerin 1st pattern.
However,i am inclinded to think that the tophook may have been replaced on this particular badge?

                Regards,Martin.

                  Hi Martin,
I never had a problem with the badge (I had discussed it with Justin in a PM), I just could not see the die flaw. Now that I look closer I can barely see it.

I have seen a few times a top hook like that (once on a destroyers badge). It could be replaced, it is hard to tell with out holding it in your hand.

I would wait for a textbook example to come along. Plus the condition on that badge is a little rough (at least to me).

                  Regards,
                  Jody

                    A plea for a 1st model Schwerin S-Boat Badge

                    Thanks Jody,

I appreciate your help and advice. I am going to try to wait for a "no doubt about it" original Schnellboot badge.

This is my last badge I need, this is also my favorite model and badge and branch of the Kriegsmarine service.
I want it to be a good one.

My KM badge collection thus far has been pretty rough. The badges are all original, but they are heavily worn for the most part.

To my fellow collectors, I am looking for a 1st model Schnellboot badge; If you have any information on a nice Schwerin model, I would be grateful.

Thanks so much for your time.
                    With Regards,
                    2dresq907
