    MIne Sweeper badge?

Think this look a little strange, especially with the non-vertical needle.
Also look rought like a cast. But need your opinions....
    Thanks

I feel this is a copy, the hinge base is wrong as is the catch, and I have never seen a round horizontal pin on a minesweeper, just my 2 cents, John

That circle you mention is not a casting mold. It is there because the original badge that was copied and served as a "master" has this circle as well. This is where the round plate of the tophook will fit in.

Here is an original of the badge that cast repro was made after. Check obverse design, especially the leaves and note the top hook´s round plate:

Put a correct looking pin on the 'fake' badge like the above and I'd be fooled straight away, some badges have the rough casting looking effect, or non filed finish.

The only thing that hits me is the pin, and then what about replaced pins etc I know it wouldn't tally with the condition but it's a good repro to a novice like me and reminds me that although I'm getting better a spotting the fakes (to a lesser or greater degree) there's alway another one around the corner.

It scare's the hell out of me.

              Kind regards,

              Marcus

pionts noted which are very interesting.i never saw a mine sweeper with the top hook before so i must agree the reason why its there.i do know someone that does castings for weapons and what they use hense i thought it was the wax prior to mold.when you put all the differant types together and spot what frank did does it fit in place.hat off to you frank

It is not so dangerous, Marcus. There is just this ONE type of Minsweeper with a horizontal pin. Remember what it looks like. If it doesn´t look exactly like the one I showed, it is not for your collection. The easy thing is, this type always has the same setup, no variations.

On the fake, the bigger give away than the pin is the hinge. Hinges like these are always a reason to worry. On any badge.
