            Hello,
Yes, that maker does not have a prop blade.

Yes, Jody is correct. This wonderful badge is a Deumer. It can be found with some variation in reverse setup and hollow-back also.

It is discussed in "Torpedo Los" quite well with some terrific photos. It is also represented in wartime postcards, and due to its unusual design, very easy to spot on a uniform photo--one of the few badges that you are able to recognize from a photo. I would say with some luck Schwerin and L/56 are the others.

Unfortunately, this obverse design is faked out of Arizona but the give-away is a Schwerin Berlin stamp on the back!!!

                    Hymmen U-boat Variation

Well, I have been waiting for the database to finish updating and wanted to show this one and hopefully get some worthwhile discussion going on this maker again.

PICS are not the best, lost my primary light and, well, it is what it is...

I'll post some PICS and go from there. You'll notice the pin is not the typical vertical wide-body type pin but a needle pin variety. Considering that we have only seen a handful of actual Hymmen U-boat badges, this one may be a pretty rare variation.

For the purists the traditional "front" shot.

Has nice gilding overall, reminds me of the Zimmermann/Mayer badges.

                      Dimensions are:

                      Weight: 26.1 grams
                      Width: 50.4 mm
                      Height: 40 mm

I compared those dimensions with what was listed in Gordon Williamson's Torpedo Los! and they are pretty close.

Here's a couple of the Eagle and center section of the badge.

                            The reverse.

What is interesting is that the hardware resembles the "now believed Deumer" product quite a bit. We always speculated that the "so-called Hymmen like" design was from another Ludensheid maker and suspected Deumer because of the hardware used with the hinge and catch, now we see this also used on the Hymmen badge.

Could it be that this is the last of the series in the tombak production?

Note the catch and hinge styles.
