    Fake U-Boat Badge?

My dad picked this up for me about 15 years ago on a trip to england....I have my suspicions on its authenticity...the swas is not clear cut, the flag off the back of the u-boat has broken, and it looks like the gold color is wearing off...From the broken flag it looks like it was manufactured with some kind of die-cast process...I have no idea what a real one looks like so if you have any ideas as to its authenticity I would appreciate it!

    Thanks in advance

Hi have looked over this one for some time and is a differcult call to make hence the reason no replies. Would really need it in hand, it is in the juncker style and it is believe there were various makers and various reverse set up to these. Personally I am not conviced yours is an original, detail to the eagle is lacking there also appears to have been an attempt to ammend the problem, such as in the marks to the eagles chest, the reverse set up such as the catch looks quite thick as seen in some of the fake s, better pics of the hinge and catch may help. Certain other areas raise concern for me, such as Colouration looks artiifical and the deck gun is not what you would expect . Always hard going of pics. Just my opinion. All the best

I must have missed this thread originally back in December.

I can post PICs of one of these in tombak and one in zinc; both originals for comparison. Agree, that one would have to look at this reverse closely in-hand to see the hardware.

Tombak (believed to be Juncker btw).

I'll put some different angles up for you that might help.

Here's a zinc one attributed to a Bootsmaaten Gottlieb Schoneck off the U-359.

Note the almost olive coloration of the badge.

Unfortunately, zincpest is trying to take hold.

Reverse with the typical hardware seen on the zinc pieces.
