    Destroyer Badge????

    Hi All.

I recently found this "destroyer Badge" at a flea market here in cape town south africa. paid very little for it, i didnt think it was real as it looks a bit suspect.

If you look on the front , in the grooves and creeces there seems to be a residue powder, this is normaly indicative of a casting?

and the pin looks like ir been put on backwards, and where the loop would be there is a mess of lead solder.

What do you guys think, Fake or Period?

    below are the links.

    Hi Nick,

    And welcome to the forum!

Unless the basemetal is lead-based, this one looks like it might be a well worn original zincer which has lost all of it's obverse finish. The white powder in the recesses is either the oxidised remnants of the finish or, more likely, the remains of some sort of cleaner. The catch has been repaired (and broken off again) and someone has probably played with the hinge pin/main pin to get the main pin upside down.

    Regards
    Mike

Hi Mike, and Thanks for the welcome. This is an exelant site !

well. thats enexpected but promising news,,, if your right i found a diamond in the ruff.

im not sure how to tell if its leadbaces, i tryed rubbing the corner on a piece of paper , normaly lead would leave a dark mark, this one doesnt, i think it may be some sort of a zink alloy? is there any way i can tell?

      Regards
      Nick
