    Schwerin HSF Set

    Hi Everyone,

Here's an interesting set (at least I think so): Schwerin HSF with 16mm mini in a case.

The HSF, if I'm not mistaken is the type 2c example.

The case though looks to be the smaller case that the Blocade Breaker badge is sometimes found in. Has anyone seen a HSF badge in such a case before?

Ultimately, there's no way of telling just how long badge(s) and case have been together. Nevertheless, the case makes a good home for the badges.

    Thanks for looking.

    Best,
    Toby.

          Hi Toby,

A great looking set imo. I've never had the chance to handle such a set but I know they exist and I have no reason to suspect from the pics that this set has not been together for a very long time based on the condition of the badge and sphrufilz inserts.

Angolia (For Fuhrer & Fatherland V1) shows a very similar HSF set (same halb-etui) and I've seen an Auxilliary Cruiser set in the same generic case, so your example is certainly not unique.

          Regards
          Mike

Mike, Ludwig, Thank you very much for your answers.

I have F&F: alas, it didn't occur to me to look in there. I now see that it is indeed a match!

              Best,
              Toby.

PS Am I correct to think my HSF is a type 2c, as per your (excellent) article, Mike?

Hello Toby, nice set! Is this the one Weitze had on sale?

                      Thanks for all the comments.

                      @ Rene - it's not Weitze's set.

@ Alex - as requested, here are some better pics (scans this time).

Type 2c? As per Mike's article.

                      Best,
                      Toby.

From these pics i would say that it is a casting fake. The details are much too soft than i expect of a original HSF Badge. Also there are many casting holes on the badge.

                            Hi Alex,

Having looked at it again, after reading your thread, I think I may have been a little complacent and you could well be correct.

I had spotted the poor detailing previously but put this down to it being the last run from the tombac die. Hmmn!

                            Anyone else?

                            Best,
                            Toby.

Agree with Alex now having seen the additional pics, finish also does not look quite right but thought it was just the lighting. Rivot head looks a bit round, also can see the indentation on the right hand side of the hinge where it was fitted to the original badge, note that this groove seems to be covered with the finish to the reverse

Do you have any dimensions and weight for the badge that would clinch it I think, original should be very close to 57.0mm x 44.0mm and weigh in about 32 - 34g
